AP Biology

AP Chemistry
Section titled “AP Chemistry”AP Chemistry gives you a deep understanding of matter and its interactions. The course covers atomic structure and periodicity, chemical bonding and molecular geometry, intermolecular forces, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, electrochemistry, and nuclear chemistry.

AP Computer Science A
Section titled “AP Computer Science A”AP Computer Science A teaches object-oriented programming in Java. Core topics include classes and objects, inheritance and polymorphism, arrays and ArrayLists, sorting and searching algorithms, recursion, and basic data structures. The course emphasises algorithmic thinking and the ability to read, write, and analyse code.
You will practise designing classes, implementing methods, tracing code execution, and analysing time complexity. The exam tests your ability to write correct Java code and reason about program behaviour.

AP Computer Science Principles
Section titled “AP Computer Science Principles”AP Computer Science Principles introduces the foundational ideas of computing without requiring a specific programming language. Topics include the internet, data, cybersecurity, algorithms, programming, abstraction, and the social impact of computing.
The course builds computational thinking through creative problem-solving and the exploration of real-world computing applications. You will complete a Create Performance Task as part of the course.

AP English Language and Composition
Section titled “AP English Language and Composition”AP English Language and Composition focuses on rhetorical analysis, argumentation, and synthesis. You will analyse non-fiction texts, construct evidence-based arguments, and write persuasive essays. The course develops your ability to evaluate how authors use language to persuade and inform.
The exam includes multiple-choice questions on prose passages and three free-response essays: synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argumentation.
AP English Literature and Composition
Section titled “AP English Literature and Composition”AP English Literature and Composition centres on close reading and literary analysis. You will study fiction, poetry, and drama, analysing how authors use literary elements such as imagery, symbolism, characterisation, and narrative structure. The course trains you to construct interpretive arguments grounded in textual evidence.

AP History

AP United States History
Section titled “AP United States History”AP US History covers American history from 1491 to the present. Topics include colonial societies, the American Revolution, the Constitution, westward expansion, the Civil War and Reconstruction, industrialisation, the Progressive Era, the World Wars, the Cold War, and contemporary America. You will practise document-based questions (DBQs), long essay questions, and short answer questions.

AP European History

AP Mathematics

AP Exam Strategy Tips
Section titled “AP Exam Strategy Tips”Success on AP exams requires more than content knowledge. Here are proven strategies:
Before the Exam
Section titled “Before the Exam”- Start early. Begin reviewing at least six to eight weeks before the exam. Spaced repetition and consistent practice outperform last-minute cramming.
- Use the College Board’s course description. The Course and Exam Description (CED) is the definitive source for what content appears on the exam. Study it carefully and identify any gaps.
- Practise with released exams. The College Board publishes past exams with scoring guidelines. These are the closest thing to the real test and help you calibrate your timing and depth of response.
- Make a formula and equation sheet. Even if the exam provides a formula sheet, writing your own helps you memorise and understand the relationships between quantities.
During the Exam
Section titled “During the Exam”- Read every question carefully. Many mistakes come from misreading what the question is asking. Underline key terms and identify the specific skill being tested.
- Manage your time. Allocate time proportionally to the number of points each question is worth. If you get stuck, move on and return later.
- Show your work. On free-response questions, partial credit is awarded for correct reasoning even if the final answer is wrong. Write down every step.
- Use process of elimination. On multiple-choice questions, eliminate obviously wrong answers before guessing. This increases your probability of selecting the correct option.
- Answer every question. There is no penalty for wrong answers on AP exams. Never leave a question blank.
After the Exam
Section titled “After the Exam”- Review your performance. If you have access to your score report, identify weak areas and use them to guide future study.
- Consider score reports for universities. Send your AP scores to universities that grant credit. A score of 4 or 5 typically earns credit, though policies vary.
- Build on your AP foundation. AP courses prepare you for university-level work. Continue building on the skills and knowledge you have developed.
Cross-Curricular Connections
Section titled “Cross-Curricular Connections”AP courses do not exist in isolation. The knowledge you gain in one subject often supports success in others:
- GCSE Resources — If you are transitioning from the GCSE system, these resources bridge the gap between GCSE and AP-level study.
- IB Resources — The IB programme shares many topics with AP. Compare approaches and deepen your understanding across both curricula.
- SAT Preparation — The SAT tests reading, writing, and mathematics skills that underpin AP success. Strengthen your foundations with SAT prep.

Frequently Asked Questions
Section titled “Frequently Asked Questions”How many AP exams should I take?
Section titled “How many AP exams should I take?”There is no single right number. Focus on quality over quantity. Take AP courses in subjects you are genuinely interested in and where you can perform well. One or two well-prepared AP exams are more valuable than five rushed ones. Consider your overall workload, extracurricular commitments, and university goals.
What score do I need to earn college credit?
Section titled “What score do I need to earn college credit?”Most universities award credit for scores of 4 or 5, though some accept scores of 3. Policies vary widely by institution and department. Check the specific university’s AP credit policy before registering for exams. Elite universities may grant credit only for scores of 5 or may place you into advanced courses rather than awarding credit.
When should I start preparing for AP exams?
Section titled “When should I start preparing for AP exams?”Ideally, begin preparing when you enrol in the AP course. Consistent study throughout the year is far more effective than cramming in the spring. If you are self-studying for an AP exam, start at least four to six months before the exam date.
Can I self-study for AP exams?
Section titled “Can I self-study for AP exams?”Yes. The College Board allows anyone to register for AP exams, regardless of whether they are enrolled in an AP course. Self-study requires discipline and a clear study plan. Use the course description as your roadmap, obtain a good textbook, and practise with released exams.
How do AP exams compare to IB exams?
Section titled “How do AP exams compare to IB exams?”AP exams are subject-specific and test content knowledge and analytical skills within a single discipline. IB exams are part of a broader diploma programme that includes internal assessments, an extended essay, and Theory of Knowledge. Both are rigorous, but they differ in structure and philosophy. Many students take both depending on their school’s offerings.
Are AP courses worth it for university admissions?
Section titled “Are AP courses worth it for university admissions?”AP courses demonstrate academic rigour and college readiness. Admissions committees view AP coursework favourably, especially when you perform well. However, AP courses are only one component of your application. Strong grades, test scores, extracurricular activities, and essays all matter. Take AP courses where you can excel, not just to fill a transcript.
What is the difference between AP Calculus AB and BC?
Section titled “What is the difference between AP Calculus AB and BC?”Calculus AB covers differential and integral calculus at a foundational level. Calculus BC includes all AB content plus sequences, series, parametric equations, polar coordinates, and more advanced integration techniques. Calculus BC is more demanding and covers about 60% more material. If you have a strong数学 background, BC may be the better choice, but AB provides a solid foundation for most STEM majors.
How do I handle AP exam stress?
Section titled “How do I handle AP exam stress?”Start preparing early to reduce last-minute pressure. Break your study plan into manageable daily tasks. Practise under timed conditions to build confidence. Get adequate sleep before the exam. Remember that a single exam score does not define your academic potential.
